Desk lamp for your desk. DIY table lamp: electrical, lighting, construction, design Video on the topic

Proper lighting plays a huge role in the interior of any room. This is especially true for the work area. Good lighting is important for vision, as the eyes are less tired when working. An excellent choice is a table lamp with a mount.

Modern manufacturers offer a wide range of stylish and attractive models that not only provide excellent lighting, but also help decorate the interior.

Peculiarities

Mounted table lamps are a type of lighting fixture. They are distinguished by practical functions and also act as interior decoration. The design of the model for tabletop use is the same as that of the classic lamp.

It includes several main elements:

  • reliable support;
  • flexible column;
  • strong body;
  • safety power cord;
  • pleasant light source (artificial).

Essential elements

The base or support of the device is represented as a clamp. With its help, the device is attached to the table surface. This support secures the lamp. It consists of a fixed frame and a clamp. If the table has a thickness of no more than six centimeters, then the lamp is securely attached to the base of the product using a clamp.

Some lamp options are equipped with a clothespin-style support. This option is characterized by mobility, since it can even be used for wall mounting.

The base and body are connected to each other thanks to the presence of a column, which is presented in the form of a flexible leg. It allows you to direct the light to the right place. The direction of lighting is determined by the socket, which can be made of plastic, metal or glass. The choice of color scheme is a completely individual decision.

The lighting source can be incandescent, LED or fluorescent lamps. Energy-saving light bulbs are extremely popular because they have a long service life, save electricity, and also meet modern standards.

Table-mounted lamps are almost always equipped with a switch, which can be located on the power cord or the product support.

Advantages and disadvantages

Table lamps with mounts have many advantages. Their main advantage is that the user can independently adjust the direction of the light using a flexible column. The design is characterized by lightness and static fastening. The lamp will not fall off the table and you don’t have to worry about the possibility of it tipping over.

The advantages of the desktop model include saving space at the desktop. The lamp can be attached to the wall or on the table. The support of modern models takes up very little space. For each lamp you can choose a light bulb of the required power.

A variety of models allows you to decorate the interior in any style. If used correctly, this device will last for many years.

But besides the advantages, table lamps also have some weaknesses:

  • The power cord is almost impossible to disguise.
  • Installing a lamp on a wall using a bracket requires skill and experience.
  • If the lamp is made of metal, then it is heavy.
  • Glass options are characterized by fragility.

A table lamp with a mount is designed to provide good illumination of the work area. Modern manufacturers create wonderful models that are presented in various designs, decorated in different styles and made in various colors.

Voltage and power

Before connecting the lamp to the network, you should carefully study the markings. Most models operate from a 220 V outlet. Rarely are there options marked 110 or 127 V. In this case, it is necessary to use an additional transformer.

Lamps for tabletop mounting can be equipped with fluorescent, LED or incandescent lamps. The optimal choice is a lamp with a power of 60 W, because this device provides spot illumination.

Types of fasteners

  1. Lamps for tabletop use can be attached to the surface in different ways. Many models have a clamp, which allows you to firmly and securely fix the product on the table.
  2. For children's rooms, lamps with a fastening that resembles a clothespin are often purchased, since even children can handle it. But this option is unreliable; such a lamp can be easily moved from its place.
  3. Models with a suction cup mount are becoming increasingly rare. This type of mounting can support light-weight lamps. This option can be used for decoration.
  4. If there is no free space on the table to place a table lamp, then you should pay attention to models with brackets. This option can be hung on the wall, although the mounting process requires effort and skill. You will definitely need a drill, dowels and a building level.

Frame

Floor lamps for table lamp models are made from various materials and are also available in a wide range of colors.

  • A metal lamp has a long service life, but is very heavy.
  • Many buyers are attracted to plastic models because they are inexpensive, lightweight, and come in a wide range of colors.
  • If we talk about glass floor lamps, they attract attention with their elegance, but are fragile. These options are not worth buying for a children's room.
  • Textile lamps look beautiful and stylish when combined with a metal body.

How to choose?

You need to take the choice of a lamp for your desk seriously, since both the result of your work and your health depend on it:

  • Before choosing a lamp, you need to decide where it will be located. If the lamp will be on the table, then you can choose a model with a clothespin, clamp or suction cup. For wall mounting, only the bracket version is suitable.
  • The lamp should be no higher than half a meter from the working surface. It is better to mount the lamp on the right, but above the monitor. The power cord should not be stretched and should not hang down, so it is better to measure the length from the table to the outlet before purchasing the device.
  • The power of the lamp directly depends on the dimensions of the desktop. Typically, lamps with a power of 60 to 100 W are purchased. High power incandescent lamps can damage the floor lamp when heated, so you need to be careful.
  • When choosing a shape, it is better to give preference to models in the form of a cone or sphere. The light bulb should not extend beyond the floor lamp, so the light will be diffused, will not tire the eyes and will not cause fatigue to the body as a whole. Among the color solutions, the best option is white and light green.
  • A table lamp must be of high quality. To check this parameter, you should take a closer look at the cartridge. Its stability is an indicator of good quality.

Indoor artificial lighting is divided into:

    general, the lamps of which are usually located on the ceiling;

    local with wall-mounted sources used to create improved working conditions or achieve specific design goals.

According to the principle of using switches, wall lamps have designs where the switch:

    located on the power cord of the lamp with a plug that is inserted into the socket;

    mounted in the wall and connected by wiring hidden in a groove inside the wall;

    installed inside the lamp body, controlled remotely, for example, using a cord or via radio using a remote control.

Recently, spotlights and spots that create directional light have become widely used. According to the control method, they can use one of the inclusion options listed above.

Installation and connection of a wall lamp involves performing the following sequence of work:

    determination of local lighting tasks;

    selection and purchase of a specific light source model;

    precise marking of drilling locations using a level for mounting the housing on the wall;

    drilling holes;

    housing installation;

    installation of the lamp and connection of electrical wiring;

    checking the circuit and trial switching on.

In some cases, installing a wall lamp may additionally require gating (cutting out internal cavities) of the walls and installing a switch.

Laying cables with wires in an open manner and installing them in the wall can eliminate the labor-intensive, dirty work of processing concrete wall surfaces. With this method, you can use an outdoor switch.

Selecting a luminaire based on electrical characteristics

The light source in modern wall lighting devices can be:

    light bulbs with an ordinary incandescent filament;

    advanced design lamps filled with special gases, for example, halogen models;

    fluorescent or energy-saving lamps;

    LED spotlights.

When choosing a lamp, you need to pay attention to:

    method of light flux dispersion and its power;

    magnitude and type of supply voltage;

    consumed electrical power and the availability of its reserve;

    control method;

    type of lamps used.

Many luminaires are limited by the design of the heating materials used. The heat from a working light bulb that is not sized correctly can melt or deform beautiful decorative elements. Therefore, you cannot screw light bulbs of higher ratings than those indicated in the technical documentation into the lamp socket.

For local lighting in rooms with high humidity (bathroom, swimming pool), sealed lamps and switches are used, and protective devices are used.

Marking the site and preparing for installation

The picture shows the preparation of the holes, taking into account the wires already taken out of it for connection to the lamp. This method is well suited for those cases when the apartment is scheduled for renovation with re-equipment of the electrical wiring diagram.

Wall lamps are attached to the wall through holes in the housing or a special mounting plate. It is important to accurately plan the locations of these holes, orient them according to the horizon level and draw them.

For this purpose, an ordinary bubble level or more complex designs of levels with a laser beam are used, which greatly facilitate marking work on the same location of switches and sockets at the same height relative to the floor along the entire perimeter of the room.

Drilling holes in the wall

Concrete slabs, sand-lime bricks, foam concrete building blocks and other materials from which walls are made have different strength characteristics and have different effects on the drill material.

To quickly and efficiently create holes in them, you need to select specially made drills and use professional tools.

Powerful hammer drills quickly cope with dense, durable concrete, impact drills drill well into a brick wall, low-power drills can be used to drill holes in wood, drywall, and plastic materials.

Drilling is always associated with the formation of construction crumbs and the release of dust, which settles on nearby objects and spreads throughout the room. To avoid this, careful owners apply the tip of the pipeline of a working vacuum cleaner to the drilling site. All crumbs and dust released during operation are collected in the vacuum cleaner, and not on the surrounding furniture.

Methods for attaching screws to the wall

Typically, wall lamps are light in weight; to fasten them, you can use ordinary self-tapping screws, for which plastic dowels are selected. Their diameter should be the same as that of the drill used.

Inserting hardwood plugs into prepared holes for subsequent screwing in screws is quite acceptable. But this labor-intensive process requires certain skills and experience. The use of standard plastic dowels makes work easier and improves the quality of retention of fasteners in the wall.

Such dowels have a special design in the form of antennae and protrusions with a prepared internal cavity to accommodate a self-tapping screw. When the dowel is inserted into the hole, its outer surfaces are deformed, making entry easier. When a screw is screwed in, the dowel material expands, pressing tightly inside the wall.

This is how dowels used in dense materials work.

However, in practice there are cases when the lamp needs to be mounted on a thin wall of an interior partition, behind which there is an air cavity. For such cases, special folding dowel designs, called “Butterfly”, are designed. Their mounting method is shown in the figure.

When unfolded, the dowel has the shape of an ordinary cylinder and passes freely through the hole prepared for fastening. When screwing in the self-tapping screw, its far part approaches the front, and the entire structure changes its shape in such a way that it tightly presses the thin-walled drywall on all sides, which ensures reliable fastening to it.

Numerous dowel manufacturers produce versatile designs that can hold screws in hard environments or work on thin walls.

In concrete, brick and similar holes (top diagram), the dowel material expands in the usual way when screwing in a self-tapping screw. When a screw is screwed into a thin partition (bottom picture), then when screwing it in, the far end of the dowel moves forward and screws, forming a knot assembled in one place that holds the screw on the reverse side and does not allow it to fall out.

After placing the dowels in the holes, the mounting housing or mounting plate is installed through them, and then the screws are screwed in. To do this, you can use a cordless screwdriver, a simple electric drill, or even an ordinary screwdriver.

All other parts of the lamp are mounted on the screwed housing, which, in principle, is a decorative fitting for connecting a light bulb.

Features of using point sources

Specific effects of local lighting are created by directional spotlights. Their rays focus on certain objects, highlighting their surfaces, emphasizing the original shapes of the illuminated objects.

Point sources have small dimensions and low electricity consumption, but at the same time they create light fluxes of sufficient power. The methods of mounting such lamps in a vertical or horizontal plane are practically no different from each other.

Such models are usually installed on thin-walled partitions made of plasterboard, multi-layer plywood or plastic. To do this, you need to cut out circular slots in them for attaching the lamp.

Special hole saws, called crown saws, serve these purposes. They must be selected according to the diameter of the hole being cut and inserted into the drill chuck. The central drill is installed at a marked point on a vertical surface and a hole is cut out in the partition.

The bit shown in the bottom picture is used for hard and dense materials.

After the hole is cut, the output ones are connected to the lamp through the terminal blocks. They are laid in advance during the implementation of the prepared design project. Then the lamp with wires is inserted inside the prepared hole so that its spring-loaded mounting brackets are inserted into the hole. They are held with your fingers and then released. The energy of the cocked spring clips reliably holds the housing in the thin-walled partition.

Spotlights are usually combined into groups to enhance the visual effect and are connected from one switch key. They are placed on the top of the wall near the ceiling using a frame of metal corners or wooden blocks onto which thin-walled sheets are fixed.

Electrical work

A typical connection diagram for a wall lamp is shown in the figure.

To power the light bulb, the voltage from the input to the apartment after the meter is used. The phase wire must be taken through the protective circuit breaker located inside the apartment panel and passed through the room's junction box and the light switch, which can even be mounted in the lamp housing.

The neutral wire from its N bus goes directly to the light bulb through the junction box and socket. The protective PE conductor is also connected from its own PE bus to the luminaire body using the contacts of the distribution box. In old building diagrams where electrical wiring works, the PE conductor and its busbar are missing.

Directional spotlights work according to the same scheme.

Wall lamps with a built-in switch and a plug for connection are simply hung near the outlet from which they are powered.

To control a group of spotlights or spots from one switch, all sockets of this block are connected in a parallel circuit.

Among modern wall lamps there is another separate group of light sources controlled by a motion sensor. Questions about describing their installation and configuration are the topic of a separate article.

Good lighting is a necessity. A table lamp is just as necessary for a schoolchild as it is for the director of an enterprise. Their choice these days is huge. Let's take a closer look at this useful accessory: what it is like and what you should pay attention to when choosing.

Lamp design

Table lamps in the classic version consist of three parts. This base, column and so-called last can be made in the form of a glass lampshade or a textile lampshade, sometimes it is a bell made of opaque material. The light source can be either a regular incandescent light bulb or a fluorescent or LED lamp.

Nowadays, they have become firmly in fashion. At a relatively high (compared to conventional) price, they have a much longer service life, low energy consumption, and modern design. And in the end they pay for their cost.

Almost always, the design of a table lamp includes a switch located on the base or power cord (less often on the base).

Sometimes the system design includes a dimmer that allows you to adjust the brightness of the lighting.

The photos you see are an excellent example of a modern compact and ergonomic lamp.

What are they like?

The appearance of structural elements can vary greatly depending on the purpose of the lamp. A classic cabinet lamp is used to illuminate a desk. It is not attached to anything, it just sits on a flat surface. The diffuser in it is usually a glass lampshade or a textile lampshade.

The design of a cabinet lamp can be made in a classic or retro style - with a massive lampshade made of expensive fabric, decorated with tassels, and a shaped stand, usually quite massive. Or maybe ultra-modern or even futuristic - there is no limit to the imagination of designers. Most often, such lamps have one light source, less often two or three.

Bedside lamps and night lamps have a similar design. They are, as a rule, smaller than table lamps for a table, but in appearance and materials they are almost the same.

Lamp on a clamp

A lamp with a clamp is a lamp that is attached to a table. It has a clamp that is rigidly fixed to the tabletop or any other surface. The column of such a lamp is made in the form of a flexible structure that allows you to adjust the light source in any desired direction. As a rule, it has an opaque bell that sends light in a targeted stream.

Such lamps usually have key switches and are sold complete with bulbs of the appropriate type and wattage. They are light in weight (up to one kilogram) and have a fairly convenient cord ranging from one to two meters in length.

The category “table lamp on a clamp” also includes lamps on a clothespin. These are, as a rule, miniature lamps without a multi-stage elbow, consisting of a compact diffuser and a clothespin holder. They are a little low for mounting on a tabletop, but are great for creating an overhead stream of light. To do this, they are fixed on the shelves of the racks, protruding parts of the furniture. Such a light and compact lamp can even be attached to a carpet hanging on the wall. By successfully placing several identical small lamps on a clothespin in different corners, you can achieve an original and very cozy lighting solution.

The table lamps, photos of which are in front of you, will delight a schoolchild or student with their bright design and variety of colors.

Lamp arrangement on a clamp

A table lamp on a clamp with fastening to a table, as a rule, has an adapter-type power supply and is available with a black or white diffuser, although, of course, a variety of color options are possible. The lamp body is made of metal and plastic. At the bottom of the column there is a grip for installation and secure fixation on the table surface.

To redistribute the flow of light in any desired direction, a mechanism is provided that connects the links of the holder-column and creates optimal lighting conditions for any point on the working surface of the table. The column, consisting of several parts, has hinges that can rotate in any direction. At the base of the column there is a bracket with a clamping screw, with which you can easily fix the lamp to the surface of the tabletop.

What is a clamp?

What is a clamp? Externally, a mechanism of this type looks like a clothespin, with which it is attached to any surface. A lamp with such a clamp can be installed almost anywhere and ensure uniform distribution of light over the entire working area. This feature is extremely important for those who spend a lot of time at a desk.

The thickness of the surface to which the table lamp is attached with a clamp can reach 5-6 centimeters. This allows you to mount it not only on a standard desk (the thickness of the table top is usually about 3 centimeters), but also on a windowsill or workbench in the garage.

About the advantages of such lamps

The main advantage of this design is the already mentioned ability to adjust the angle of incidence of the light beam in any direction, which is practically unattainable for ordinary table lamps.

Another important advantage is saving space on the desk, which, as a rule, is always in short supply. And also safety - thanks to the reliable fastening of the lamp, even the slightest possibility of it slipping off the table is practically eliminated.

Such lamps can usually be easily raised, for example, above the head or the level of the monitor. The power of the light bulbs used is selected optimally for each specific model. After all, a table lamp for a schoolchild should, among other things, protect children’s vision.

Another advantage of such devices is their modern design and the ability to place them in any interior style - both at home and in the office. Lamps of the latest generation - with fluorescent or LED lamps - look great in a work room or high-tech living room.

About the disadvantages

Their disadvantages include a gradual weakening of the rigidity of the structure, the screws of which become loose over time. Because of this, the lamp may gradually begin to sag, deviating from its intended position.

But this problem is inherent mainly in older models. Modern lamps are equipped with steel springs that rigidly fix the structure.

Another disadvantage is sometimes called the bulkiness of the design. Sometimes the lamp's knees do not fit in a tight space, especially if the workplace is equipped in a niche or is limited from above by hanging shelves.

Instructions

First, pay attention to the shape of the lamp shade. The ideal option is a trapezoid shape; it provides the most comfortable lighting for the eyes. At the same time, remember that too bright a lamp color will distract the student from completing assignments, so your choice should be a lamp of calm tones. The best option is green; it will have a beneficial effect on the child’s vision.

Check the material from which it is made. If the lampshade is made of plastic, then inspect its inside: the lamp should under no circumstances be adjacent to the walls of the lampshade. Otherwise, after some time it will begin to melt, which can lead to a fire. Metal also has its own: it is fast and can burn a child if he needs to turn it.

When purchasing a lamp, pay as much attention as possible to the light source. After all, it is he who has the main influence on the student’s vision. Today, fluorescent lamps have practically replaced conventional lamps; they consume much less energy and do not heat up. However, such lamps do not provide enough light. Choose a lamp that will provide soft light. Remember that it must be hidden by a lampshade, otherwise the bright light will blind the child.

The lamp leg must be fully movable or rotate in three directions on hinges. This lamp can be installed outside the work area, which will save space on your desk. In addition, you can independently select the required height and inclination, and position it in a way that is convenient for you. Screw-mounted lamps are especially practical; they do not take up much space, are mounted on almost any surface and can be rotated in any direction.

  • Tips for choosing a table lamp

With the beginning of the school year, close attention must be paid to the organization of the student’s workplace, in particular, lighting. A lot depends on the table lamp: the effectiveness of the work, the child’s well-being after completion, etc. With a correctly selected and installed desk lamp, you can expect good results from your child when completing his homework. This is explained by the fact that the eyes do not get tired in the right lighting, which means that the child does not get overtired.

Instructions

Lamp shade The shape and color of the lamp shade are very practical. Lamps with a cone-shaped shade are preferable. This lampshade has a narrow base and wide edges, so there will be maximum illumination. The color of the lampshade should not be very bright, because... bright ones will distract the child’s attention from work. The best color for the lampshade is green. Green shades do not distract attention and allow the eye muscles to rest. Calm pastel colors are also good. The material from which the lampshade is made is also important. Plastic lampshades are good, but if the quality of the plastic is low, they can begin to melt when the light bulb is on for a long time. This creates a risk of fire. It is necessary to choose lamps made of hard, fairly thick plastic. Metal is often used to make lamp shades. It is fireproof and durable. But it has a drawback - it gets hot, so your child may get burned when he tries to adjust the lamp.

Lamp tripod A lamp that has a flexible leg with a rigid attachment to the table is especially suitable. In this case, the lamp’s leg can be completely flexible or rotate on hinges in three planes. Fixing the lamp outside the working area allows you to significantly increase the working space of the table. Rigid mounting prevents the lamp from falling. Using the flexible lamp leg, you can illuminate any part of the table without moving the lamp. It is desirable that the lampshade is not transparent. It will direct the flow of light onto the table and not blind the child’s eyes. To ensure that the light from the light bulb is slightly diffused, the lampshade must have a reflector.

Light Bulb It is best to use a simple incandescent lamp with a matte finish in a table lamp. This allows you to use a dimmer (rheostat) in the lamp, which can regulate the power of the light source. This makes it possible to achieve the most correct and comfortable illumination of the table. With fluorescent energy-saving light bulbs, the use of dimmers is not possible.

Types of table lamps

According to their functional purpose, table lamps can be either working or decorative. Before you buy a table lamp, you need to evaluate its parameters and safety. Doctors advise paying attention not so much to the appearance, but to the direction of the light flux and the power of the device. Modern lamps differ in the material of the lampshade, shape, and type of lighting. It is worth highlighting wireless table lamps separately.

Today, wireless lamps that are recharged from batteries or solar panels have appeared on sale. The products have such qualities as energy and environmental safety.

Advantages of wireless LED lamps

In order for the wireless lamp to work, it must be equipped with batteries. Such a lamp can be installed in the toilet room, basement, wardrobe and other places where there is no conventional lighting.
Compared to other lighting devices, a wireless lamp is distinguished by:
- huge energy savings
- mobility and compactness, the lamp can be easily removed from the holder and used as a flashlight
- easy installation and installation of the device
- wireless lamps do not break even when dropped
- working at full power, the lamps do not heat up.

The benefits of using a wireless lamp have long been appreciated by cafe and restaurant owners. Comfortable lighting is the key to a pleasant pastime and creating an intimate atmosphere.

Criteria for choosing wireless table lamps

When choosing lamps, you should pay attention to the components of the product. When manufacturing wireless options, high-quality LEDs of the SOV class should be used. It is known that neutral light in the white spectrum is comfortable for the eyes. Therefore, it is very important that the lamp provides constant warm light. You should also pay attention to the operating time of the lamp. A high-quality device can operate at full power for up to 12 hours in autonomous mode. The next indicator is the charging time. The desktop should be well lit, regardless of who is sitting at it - an office worker, a journalist, someone who likes to communicate on social networks, or a schoolchild. This is especially important if there is little or no natural light. A modern table lamp will help you out a lot if it is positioned correctly and mounted well. How to attach a lamp to a table? Now we will discuss this.

Two words about models

Table lamps are produced by many electrical equipment companies. The brands that are most loved by consumers are:

  • Camelion;
  • Odeon;
  • Uniel;
  • Lussol;
  • Brilliant,
  • Globo;
  • Feron.

There are also products from other companies on sale. The price range and technical characteristics are very diverse, so the choice depends entirely on the needs of the individual user.

Similarities and differences

Before assembling a table lamp that is attached to the table, it is very useful to understand what kind of lamps there are for the workplace. Without exception, all table lamps are designed for local lighting. As for the differences, there are many more of them:

  • type of lamps;
  • power;
  • mains voltage;
  • fastening method;
  • body material;
  • lampshade design.

Power and voltage

There are devices on sale that are designed to use several types of lamps:

  • incandescent;
  • LED;
  • luminescent.

Since table lamps play a supporting role in the overall lighting of the room, the lamps they use are not particularly bright. For example, the standard power of an incandescent lamp is 60 W.

Important! The vast majority of table lamps are designed for a mains voltage of 220 V. However, among them there are those that are made according to other standards - for example, you need a voltage of 110 V or 127 V. This is indicated on the labeling and in the instructions. This voltage is not available everywhere, so before you go to the store, you should inquire about the parameters of the electrical network in your home.

It may also turn out that you did not pay attention to the marking and bought a device rated for 127 V, while the house has 220 V. Do not rush to immediately throw away your purchase - it is quite possible that there will be a way out of the situation:

  • power the device through a step-down transformer;
  • look at the instructions - it is quite possible that the device can be switched;
  • connect 2 identical lamps in series - however, their light will be less bright, and the spectrum will shift slightly towards the red.

Mounting method

There are still lamps on sale that are simply placed on the table. This option is familiar to many, it has its advantages, and the main one is that the lamp can be moved around the table, moved to another room, or even taken out into the garden and connected to the network using an extension cord, if you suddenly decide to settle down in a sun lounger in the evening and read a little before bed. However, an advantage very quickly turns into a disadvantage, especially if there is a careless tenant or a not very well-mannered cat in the house. One awkward move and the lamp is on the floor.

Therefore, it is much more convenient to rigidly install the lamp. If you are wondering how to attach a table lamp to a table, look at what types of fastenings are available. You will probably find several options on sale. The lamp can be attached:

  • to the table on clamps;
  • to the table on a clothespin;
  • to the computer on suction cups;
  • to the wall above the table on a special bracket.

Choosing a lamp

Having become a little familiar with the theory, it’s time to move on to practice – that is, to choosing a device. Design, of course, is important - any detail in the room must correspond to the overall style of the interior, this also applies to lighting fixtures. Grandma's heavy lamp with the tasseled shade probably still works, but does it look as good in your room? Only if your entire decor is in Retro style, then this rarity has no price. In all other cases, it is better to choose something more modern and less bulky.

There are three main considerations when purchasing:

  1. The lamp should be comfortable.
  2. He must perform his functions efficiently.
  3. The lamp should not be allowed to clutter the table.

Convenience

Modern lamps are suitable for both a regular desk and a computer desk. They have several useful parts to ensure this. For example, a tripod. It is mobile, and two simple devices can ensure this:

  • flexible tube;
  • rigid tripod.

A tube

Wires leading to the light source are inserted into a flexible tube. The tube can be:

  • metal;
  • plastic.

In appearance and structure, it is similar to the one to which the shower head is attached, and its functions are similar, only in one case it correctly directs the flow of water, and in the other - light. When purchasing, you need to pay attention to how easily this part bends. If this can be done effortlessly, you can easily direct the light flow where you need it:

  • in front of;
  • up;
  • to the side;
  • down.

Important! Don’t forget to also check how well you can fix this element in the desired position. The tube should not bend without your desire, solely under the weight of its own lampshade.

Tripod

This part consists of two parts. Both of them are rigid, and are fastened together by a rotating mechanism. If you need to change the direction of the light flow, you simply move the lamp. The tripod halves, fastened with a screw, change position relative to each other. The tripod is also connected to the lampshade via a role-playing mechanism. This allows you to change the direction of the light by slightly turning the hood.

Mobility

Since a modern lamp is equipped with a device that allows it to direct light to any place, it is not at all necessary to move it across the table in order to illuminate some other area. That is, it can and should be fixed, especially since this provides a lot of advantages. How is a table lamp attached to a table? In one of two ways:

  • on clamps;
  • on a clothespin.

In the first case, the lamp is installed on the edge of the tabletop using a clamp and screw. The screw is tightened, the lamp does not move until you decide to move it to another place. When you need it, you can unscrew the screw and remove the device without any additional equipment.

The second option is even simpler - the fastening works exactly the same as any other clothespin. To remove the lamp from the table, you just need to press the plate.

Advantages of a fixed lamp

Regardless of how you prefer to attach the lamp to the table, a lamp with a mount has a number of advantages:

  • it cannot be accidentally thrown onto the floor;
  • the base takes up virtually no space on the table;
  • the lamp does not lose mobility.

Shade

Modern lampshades for table lamps are extremely simple and, at the same time, elegant and functional. They can be:

  • made of metal;
  • made of plastic;
  • from glass.

The choice of material depends on what the table itself is made of:

  • The metal lamp fits on any surface.
  • Above a tabletop trimmed with plastic, a lampshade made of the same material will look better.
  • But glass and opaque plastic do not combine very well - such a lamp will decorate a wooden or steel surface.

Setting up a desktop

Before you attach a desk lamp to your desk, it makes sense to consider that your workspace is primarily meant to be used for work. That is, decorative elements play a secondary role. That's why:

  • Preference should be given to a laconic and practical model - preferably with a wide lampshade that will provide illumination to a large surface of the tabletop. At the same time, the device itself should not be large.
  • Please note the manufacturer:
    1. Excellent table lamps are produced by the German company Brilliant. They are comfortable, easy to attach, easy to remove and are relatively inexpensive.
    2. The Austrian company Globo has also long been known on the international market. Lamps of this brand can be either with a tripod or with a flexible tube. They are miniature and can operate on both incandescent and LED lamps.
    3. Many users praise the products of the Polish company Lussole - lighting fixtures on tripods with a wide lampshade. The lamps are reliable, comfortable and look very stylish, and they are quite cheap compared to their Western European counterparts.

Mounting the lamp

In order to attach the lamp to clamps, you do not need any additional devices or tools. Everything is included in the package. You can install it:

  • on the edge of the tabletop;
  • on a bookshelf if it hangs above the table.

High-quality models from reputable manufacturers have clamps made of good, durable metal that can withstand high pressure, so you don’t have to worry about them falling apart under strong pressure.

Important! You can also find Chinese fakes on sale, which are not always made of high-quality materials: if you come across a lamp from an unknown manufacturer, attach it carefully.

What does it consist of?

Any lamp that is attached to a table has several elements:

  • the lamp itself;
  • the basis;
  • tripod made of two parts with a hinge;
  • clamp.

In turn, the clamp also consists of several parts - it is assembled in the package. It includes:

  • plate;
  • clamp;
  • a screw or lever that adjusts the clamping of the tripod to the tabletop.

Important! Before installing the lamp, read the instructions - the procedure is simple, but you need to know all the details.

Installation

So, you bought a lamp, looked at what it consists of, and read the instructions. Next, the procedure for attaching the lamp to the table will be as follows:

  1. Choose a place on the countertop - you don't need to make any notes.
  2. Place the purchased lamp in this place.
  3. If the clamp plate and screw are tightly together, move them apart.
  4. Place the clamp so that the edge of the tabletop is between the plate and the screw.
  5. Once the base is in the desired position, carefully tighten the screw clockwise.
  6. Turn the screw until the base is rigid.

Important! Do not use much force when turning the screw, otherwise you may break either the clamp or the tabletop.
