I would like to thank the creator of these designs for bringing them to light - the Amphion design was very useful to me. I am a professional dressmaker and often sew at home. I have long wanted to have a separate table for cutting (the fact is that an ordinary dining table is not very suitable for this, because it is 10 cm lower and this hurts my back), but a large table would never fit in my room. Therefore, the idea arose to make it foldable... The table was made to order and an additional tabletop was ordered separately for it... The husband promised to find a way to connect one to the other. But then it turned out that apart from the corners and a removable leg, there was nothing suitable in stores. I found this site quite by accident, showed my husband the Roborex-Amphion design, he said that this is what we need! HOORAY! I ordered, paid, everything was delivered, my husband put everything together according to the diagram and now I’m happy - I have a gorgeous workplace! The design allows me to easily fold and unfold the table without my husband’s participation!
I also want to say that I was very pleased with the communication with the master - the inventor of this design: I received answers to all my questions before purchasing very quickly, in detail and competently! Thank you!

Surely many owners constantly complain about the lack of free space. However, this problem can be solved if you approach the layout of each room wisely. In this case, it will be possible not only to get a beautiful, comfortable interior, but also to free up the area as much as possible from unnecessary things. If you are faced with a similar problem, try to use multifunctional interior elements, as well as folding furniture. One such option is a folding table. As a rule, it is used in the kitchen, where it becomes an excellent alternative to the classic one. If you are interested in learning how to choose a folding table or make one yourself, our article will definitely help you with this!

A folding table will save you a lot of space

Folding table: advantages and rules of use

What kind of mechanism is this - a folding table? This is not just a plank that is attached to the wall and acts as a table in small spaces. This is a completely self-sufficient element of the interior, which, with the right approach, can become your good assistant. Typically, it is used in small spaces, such as the kitchen, pantry or balcony. Of course, such a piece of furniture cannot become the center of the room, but that’s why it is foldable, so that if necessary it can be folded, and it does not attract unnecessary attention to itself.

Of course, its main advantage is its compactness. After all, there is no room to turn around in or on a narrow balcony, especially if there are several people in the room. If the table is not needed at the moment, you can simply fold it along the wall and enjoy the freed up space.

Another undoubted advantage is the lower cost of folding models compared to classic tables. Even if you choose a wall-mounted folding table made from some expensive type of wood, it will still cost you less than a standard table made from the same material.

Another advantage of this design is the ability to fold it if necessary, thereby freeing up additional free space. And if it is almost always laid out in your kitchen or on the balcony, even in this state it will look much lighter and weightless than its classic counterparts.

However, against the backdrop of all the above advantages, we should not forget about the disadvantages of a wall-mounted table. This design is considered quite miniature. That is, it will be comfortable for one, or maximum two, family members to dine at it. To eat food in comfortable conditions, one person requires an area of at least 40x60 cm. The dimensions of the folding table can be a maximum of twice as large so that two people can fit behind it. If you make it large in size, constantly putting and putting the table back will not be so convenient, the design will turn out to be bulky and heavy.

Another equally significant drawback is the limitations in the size and shape of the table. The folding mechanism is quite specific, so not every tabletop shape will look harmonious. So, the most common shapes are semicircle and square. Modern furniture manufacturers also offer oval and rectangular options. They are more suitable for narrower and longer rooms. However, as practice shows, using folding tables of such shapes is not so convenient.

In addition, not every size tabletop can be attached to the wall. A surface that is too large will be too heavy to regularly fold and unfold the mechanism. In addition, the height of the entire structure will depend on the size of the tabletop, otherwise a table surface that is too large will simply drag along the floor.

The folding mechanism also imposes some restrictions on the material from which the table will be made. Some may argue, because glass, wood, and plastic, as well as countertops made of many other materials, can be attached to the wall. On the one hand, high-quality fasteners will allow you to support any weight, on the other hand, is it practical to use a folding tabletop, for example, made of glass? One careless movement - and it will be covered with thousands of small cracks and cobwebs. This option is hardly worth considering, especially if. It is also unlikely that a stone countertop for a folding table will work - also not the best solution. Even if you manage to secure it very firmly and reliably, just imagine how much effort it will cost you to raise and lower it every time. And if such a tabletop is constantly in a disassembled position, what is the point of it?

And despite the number of limitations that the folding table mechanism has, it is practically impossible to do without it in small kitchens and on balconies. If you haven't found a suitable wall table model yet, try making one yourself!

Making a folding table with your own hands

Before you start doing the work yourself, you need to decide on the material from which the table will be made.

As mentioned above, there are many options for arranging this interior element. As practice shows, most people prefer plywood, chipboard or MDF sheets. After all, it is these materials that are easiest for a non-professional to work with without special equipment. In addition, these materials are relatively lightweight, which will allow you to open and close the table mechanism several times a day without much effort. It is best to use laminated and moisture-resistant plywood. It is quite light, durable and will repel water. It is enough to cut the plywood to shape using a jigsaw, thanks to which you will get a finished tabletop. All you have to do is equip it with legs - and the table is ready!

The second most popular material is natural wood. It has many advantages: naturalness, environmental friendliness, sophistication and nobility. However, you are unlikely to be able to make something similar to a tabletop from a layer of natural wood with your own hands without the help of special equipment. In addition, you need to have specific skills in working with wood. Without these two factors, you should not try your hand at such expensive material.

The same goes for glass. It will not be possible to cut a tabletop from a thick tempered piece of glass yourself without special equipment and skills. In addition, the finished tabletop will need to be additionally processed around the edges and holes made in it for attaching to the wall.

If you have already decided on the material, then it’s time to start working on it yourself. One of the most important points is the installation of wall mounts and folding systems. There are many options for arranging a folding table cover, but we bring to your attention one of the simplest. For it you will need to purchase a special mechanism - the so-called folding bracket in the amount of two pieces. These brackets will perform the function of raising and lowering the tabletop to the wall. If this is your first experience in this kind of work, we recommend starting with sheets of plywood or MDF boards. Using plywood as an example, we will tell you how to make a folding table with your own hands.

The first step is to cut the tabletop to the required shape and size. Once you have it in front of you, be sure to go over its surface with a sanding attachment or sandpaper - first coarse-grained, then fine-grained, not forgetting to sand the corners. It is easiest to cut a square or rectangular tabletop. But even with this shape, it is best to make more rounded corners to avoid traumatic situations.

If you use untreated material, you must apply a moisture-resistant coating to the plywood or MDF, as well as a special antiseptic that will protect it from fungus and mold. These properties are especially relevant for the kitchen and balcony. After the antiseptic has completely dried, you can cover the tabletop with two layers of varnish, first allowing each to dry thoroughly.

Now you can begin installing the brackets. They are attached using dowels and self-tapping screws. You should retreat 6-7 cm from the side edges of the tabletop on each side. This creates a reserve for your palms when you open the table. The bracket should be attached after careful fitting of the tabletop to the wall at a right angle. Only after this you need to mark the places of future fastenings (screws) and, after preliminary marking, make holes at the marked points. Self-tapping screws are screwed directly into a sheet of plywood, so you need to put another piece of plywood on it in advance, which will protect against through-drilling of the tabletop. We attach the brackets.

Now it's time to install the tabletop to the wall. It is necessary to decide on the height of the future table. When calculating the height, be sure to sit on the usual chairs or stools that you plan to continue using with this folding table. Mark the height line where the table will be located using masking tape or a pencil. Mark the mounting points for the brackets. Make holes for them using a hammer drill. Using dowels, we secure the table top with brackets to the wall. After this, you need to check whether the table is level using a building level. In case of unevenness, adjustments will need to be made.

The last stage is to check the operation of the folding mechanism. If you did everything correctly, the table will recline without problems, and the folding mechanism will slide smoothly and lock firmly.

As you can see, in this example of creating a folding table there is nothing difficult even for a beginner in construction work. It is important to maintain all proportions and not try to create an overly large and monumental table for the first time. There are many different ways to attach a table to a wall. Have you tried any of them? Be sure to share your experience with us and our readers in the comments below this article!

Initially, in this place we had a “small” factory computer desk, which was taken from Prazhskaya. But over time, we realized that in our tiny room this table takes up too much space (more than a meter from the wall). I had to cut it into components and make a TV stand out of it. And in this place, assemble such a simple folding table, which, if desired, could be folded and thereby free up space in the room. We don’t pay attention to the poor calendars; I used them to cover (for the duration of the photo shoot) the opening in the wall where the LG CRT monitor used to stand.

These are the actual dimensions of our tabletop, purely for clarity and you should absolutely not adhere to these dimensions and shapes. The chipboard sheet itself was bought at OBI, I don’t know exactly, but in my opinion it was originally 90x60cm. And after we rounded the edges with a jigsaw and cut out a small niche for the back of the chair, the dimensions of the table became 90x56 cm. Then, the ends of this sheet were processed with sandpaper wound on a block. Then we covered the end with a PVC edge, except for the back side, since the piano hinge will be attached there.

The table was attached to the wall using a 45x45 mm block, since the wall is very soft (chalk) and, moreover, not perfectly flat. The block itself was screwed to the wall with four self-tapping screws, about 8-10 cm long. Countersinks were drilled into the block so that the heads of the screws would not stick out. After we pulled the block to the wall using an iron, we sealed the countersinks with melamine edge. Previously, when we had a CRT monitor, this block served as a small window sill on which the mouse and keyboard were parked in a vertical position, in special insulated pockets.

The piano hinge was screwed to the tabletop and then to a block on the wall.

The opposite edge of the tabletop is supported by two pieces of such a chain along the edges. The length of these sections is selected after the hooks are screwed to the wall and the corners to the tabletop. That is, we set the tabletop strictly horizontally (aligned), and then measure the length of the chains.

A couple of these hooks, 3.5 mm thick, were wrapped into the wall through the plugs.

For some reason, the hooks didn’t impress me with their appearance, so to attach the chain to the table, I decided to use an ordinary iron furniture corner fixed under the table. First, a 2-3 mm drill was used to drill a series of holes in the table, then, using the same drill, we selected jumpers between the holes diagonally. After drilling, I slightly trimmed the holes with a file. This created two longitudinal holes for the corners in the chipboard. Before attaching the corners under the tabletop, I rounded off the tails (those that will always be on the front side) of the corners with a file. After that, we unbent one link on the chain and put it on the corner.

So that the tabletop does not hit the back of the head (if you sit with your back to it). This simple hook-spring was bent from tin. Which holds the tabletop vertically and at the same time, at a certain distance from the wall, that is, parallel to the wall. It works flawlessly and is quite reliable.

After purchasing this LCD monitor (by the way, there is a photo with an old monitor in the opening), they stopped folding the table, because the new monitor was huge and did not fit into the wall opening. That's why this new Benq has settled on this table forever. I even had to cut out a little of the wall so that the monitor stand would move a little further than it should.

If you decide to assemble the same or similar folding table, then think about the expected load in advance. For example, if you want to jump or sit on it, then it is better to immediately take a more powerful chain, and it is advisable that its links be sealed. The same applies to the rest of the structural elements, hooks, corners, hinges, and the tabletop can be cut thicker and stronger.

Overall, I really like the table; nothing gets in the way under your feet because it has no legs. If the so-called window sill (block) is made a little larger, then it will be possible to fold it in front of this LCD monitor. You can also glue or screw some kind of picture or poster onto the bottom of the table (bottom), it is advisable that it follows the contours of the tabletop (so to speak, for harmony). Then, with the table raised, you won’t have to admire the clean and boring surface of the chipboard. In this way, you can, as it were, kill two birds with one stone: when assembled, the picture is shown, and when disassembled, the table functions for its intended purpose.

Modern small-sized housing puts forward the main requirement that must be taken into account when moving in - ergonomic furniture. In this regard, when choosing tables, owners often give preference to functional, compact modifications, for example, options with folding or folding tabletops.

Advantages

A wall-mounted folding table is a tabletop that is fixed to the wall using special wall fasteners in the form of triangular or rectangular supports. Several advantages of this design should be noted.

  • Compactness. Models can be placed in a room of any size without cluttering it.
  • Functionality. The wall-mounted table performs all the functions intended for it.
  • Style. Models can serve as a decorative element and decorate any interior.

  • Easy to assemble. Manufacturers sell folding tables ready-made with instructions for mounting. The maximum that the user must do is fix the fasteners with self-tapping screws, which does not require any special skills.

The model is so simple that you can assemble a similar table with your own hands. Compact furniture looks great in miniature kitchens, loggias and balconies.

Features of the mechanism

As a rule, the features of folding and folding table options are the types of fasteners. Most often, anchor dowels are used for wall mounting, and the folding parts of the structure are secured using piano hinges. However, the use of more complex fittings ensures the mechanism is inconspicuous, functional and durable. The wall-mounted version of the table is most often equipped with either a lifting or folding mechanism.

A distinctive feature of simple folding structures is the independent fastening of the tabletop and support with fixation of the leg; such models are equipped with a flat triangular or U-shaped holder.

The movement is provided by a rotating mechanism, and a magnet or various fasteners are installed to fix the legs. It is noted that these variations are the most reliable.

Some folding models have a leg screwed to the underside of the tabletop with a hinge mechanism. In this case, installation consists of securing the table surfaces to the wall. When unfolding, the support folds back like an accordion, which allows you to disassemble the structure in one movement.

Another option for attaching folding tables are brackets. They are most often made of iron or steel. Unlike other designs, the brackets are installed without hinges. They perform two functions at once: supports and hinges. The mechanism is attached on one side to a vertical bearing surface, and on the other to the table top. When the table top is raised to a level perpendicular to the wall, it is fixed in this position. To fold, you need to slightly pull the tabletop up and then close it.

Folding or folding options are popular in children's rooms or kitchens. They tend to use the console as additional storage space. Since these rooms require easy-to-use furniture, models are often equipped with various hinge mechanisms. A folding table may have a support leg that moves from the wall towards the opening of the table top or lowers from under the table surface. A factory-made turn-out table built into a cabinet or wall can be equipped with gas lifts. These shock absorbers are similar in their operating principle to parts of the rear doors of domestic cars. With their help, you can facilitate the layout of a table of any complexity and weight.

A hanging sample is appropriate, for example, on a balcony, loggia, or in a workshop. Its design is the simplest of all, excluding any additional elements other than the suspension. The simplest tables in the form of a shelf usually do not even fold. They can be hung on balcony railings or on various ledges in the garage.

Any type of furniture associated with transformation is characterized by the presence of mechanisms that change shape or size.

They come in two types:

  • Drawer tables with or without lengthening.
  • Tsargovye can be synchronous and non-synchronous.

Accessories

The list of components included in the design of folding tables varies depending on the model, but the main parts are the same for all.

  • The brackets can be folding or sliding. They are usually made from metal alloys. The bracket is selected depending on the style of the interior and the functional load of the table.
  • Base plate for fastening the table top. It can be of different shapes, for example, T-shaped, in the shape of the letter P, or in the form of a folding leg. Unlike the bracket, the bar is stationary.
  • Loops. Depending on the design, manufacturers use tilt-and-turn options, butterfly hinges or piano furniture hinges to connect the tabletop with other elements.
  • Anchor bolts for attaching folding table tops to the wall.

  • The console for a folding table can serve as an additional shelf or stand for vases, lamps, boxes, books and other interior elements.
  • Fasteners for holding the structure in assembled form, for example, locking hooks for folding tables. Experts advise purchasing folding models with an impact lock. This note is especially relevant for glass countertops, since if the tabletop is lowered carelessly down, it can hit the wall.
  • Roller guides for retractable structural elements or for mobile table models moving along a rail along the wall.
  • Decorative details to simplify the transformation process: handles, hinges, levers.

Manufacturers mainly offer complete models. The kit, in addition to the table itself, includes all fasteners necessary for installation.

Models

Models are classified according to different parameters.

Depending on the shape

An important criterion when purchasing a folding table is its shape.

  • Square ones are optimal for a small family of three.
  • The rectangular shape is the most convenient because it is spacious and can be designed for a larger number of people. Depending on the size of the room, such a table can be placed either along the wall or across it.
  • The round table is the least popular, but its originality allows it to look great in a classic dining area.
  • A semicircular tabletop is more compact than a round one, but is not practical. Therefore, it is often used in loggias and balconies.

Depending on the type of construction

  • Table transformer– the most functional model. It can be wall-mounted or wall-mounted. It is often used in the kitchen because it has several zones. The table folds easily and makes it possible to create either a compact work option or turn into a dining area. An adjustable transformer has additional functions, which makes it different from a regular folding one. For small-sized kitchens, models without legs with vertical wall mounting are available. Manufacturers also offer transforming tables with one leg, but they lack stability.

  • Folding option. A universal piece of furniture, as it allows you to mount it on any vertical surface, be it a wall or a cabinet. It can withstand quite heavy loads, so it can be used as a school or work one. Folding models, in turn, vary in size, which can be selected depending on the location. It must be remembered that massive tabletops need supports in the form of spacers or several legs. Experts advise choosing options with a drawer or with shelves if overloads are planned during operation, for example, the kitchen table is always filled with dishes, and on the work table there are stacks of books that can be put away in storage areas. A folding table with a mirror that opens like an accordion would be appropriate in the bedroom.

Disadvantage - fastenings are a place of greater load, so during installation it is better to use high-quality mechanisms and parts, and also to eliminate errors in operation. Otherwise, the model risks falling, tearing off the wall decoration behind it.

  • Mobile folding model differs from previous mobility. Guides located on the wall allow the tabletop to move along it. A great option for a non-standard layout. As a rule, the structure is equipped with additional leg clamps that provide support and stability in a stationary position.
  • Folding bar counter. Often used by designers in modern interiors. It is a long narrow tabletop, the mount of which is built into the wall. The products have an unusual design, for example, glass or mirror inserts make them luxurious. The models are perfect for long kitchens. Since the bar counter is mounted high, it is usually equipped with high stools.

  • Hanging option characterized by the absence of legs. It saves space as much as possible, similar in design to a window sill. Manufacturers produce options with sidewalls.
  • Folding table- the simplest option. It differs from a transformer in the absence of additional features. The main difference from all other models is that it does not fold completely to a vertical state, and therefore, when folded, it looks like a cabinet. This design feature is used for storing things.

Materials

  • Chipboard or MDF sheets. The cheapest option that allows you to experiment with shapes. Because it is easy to process, manufacturers offer a wide range of models with different designs. Thanks to veneering and lamination, craftsmen obtain different textures. The advantages of the material include ease of maintenance and low weight. The disadvantage is the low service life, which is explained by the instability of the boards to external mechanical influences and moisture.
  • Wood. Environmentally friendly, non-allergenic material. Exquisite handcraft turns tables into masterpieces. However, wooden models are also produced for ordinary apartments. The advantages of the material include durability, strength, and a high degree of resistance to mechanical stress. The main disadvantages are the significant weight of the structure and high cost.

  • Glass. Thanks to the latest technologies, a long service life and the absence of external influences are achieved. The glass table is made of tempered impact-resistant material. Cons: heavy, expensive and cold to the touch.
  • Plastic. Since PVC is not afraid of moisture, wind, or dirt, tabletops are popular on open balconies and children's art studios, where contact with water and a lot of dirt is possible.

Tabletop supports are usually made of wood or metal, which guarantees the stability of the structure and the reliability of the fastenings. For wooden and glass surfaces, manufacturers often offer a chrome-plated version of the clamps.

Dimensions

The main factor when purchasing a folding table is its unfolded size. Dimensions should take into account not only the area of the room, but also the number of people to accommodate. The standard table height usually varies from 70 to 75 cm. It provides a comfortable distance from the table top to the knees of the person sitting. For the average person, the following working area standards are accepted: 1.2 m in length and 0.8 m in width. This must be taken into account if the folding table will be used as a desk. If the reclining structure is used as a dining area, then the rules are slightly different.

  • Round table. For the usual version, the diameter, suitable for 4-6 people, can be from 110 to 135 cm, but for a folding table it should be taken into account that it will not be possible to seat anyone on the wall-mounted side. Thus, in the above example, it is necessary to reduce the number of seats per person.

  • Oval table. This design can be mounted both along the wall and across it. The number of seats will depend on the location.
  • Rectangular version similarly to the oval model, it depends on the method of mounting to the wall.

It should be noted that comfortable dimensions for one person sitting at the dining table have been determined to be 60 cm in length and 40 cm in depth. These standards should be taken into account when installing folding models.

Review of the best manufacturers

Nowadays, folding tables are produced by many Russian and foreign brands that produce tables, kitchen ensembles and other cabinet furniture. Their assortment often includes standard samples without special decorative elements. Of course, we need to highlight among them the Dutch brand Ikea, which produces budget transformable furniture with a reliable structure. The main characteristics are maximum naturalness and simplicity, the use of wood and metal.

  • Design of folding tabletops "Byursta" will fit perfectly into modern styles, but will be inappropriate in classic interiors. The design is cantilever, so when folded the table looks like a shelf. Dimensions are designed for two people sitting. The tabletop is made of chipboard covered with ash veneer. The mounting plate is made of steel. The collection has various colors.

  • It is worth noting the products of the line "Norberg". These are more versatile tables that look great both in the kitchen and in a student’s room. Similar to “Byursta”, it has wall mounting and is designed for two, the difference from this collection is that the tabletop is covered with laminate.
  • A more environmentally friendly and natural option - model "Norbu", made from solid birch. Compared to the Norberg collection, it looks more laconic and ponderous.

Widely known brand "Shatura" also offers several models of folding tables. The assortment includes the following products.

  • Kitchen tables with folding top. The main material for budget options is veneered chipboard or MDF, covered with a polymer film for protection. More expensive tables are made from glass or wood.
  • Folding and sliding dining areas equipped with countertops of different shapes.
  • Folding desks for children's rooms. Folding surfaces allow you to adjust the tilt of the tabletop depending on the needs of the student. Combined options with shelves and cabinets make it possible to save space by completely removing the table or folding it into a wall cabinet.

  • Folding desks for the office.
  • Folding office desk models.
  • Bar counters and folding tables for small cafes, which will allow you to increase the number of additional seats during peak hours.

The production of built-in and wall-mounted furniture is quite popular among regional small factories and workshops. They will make any model to order according to individual sizes. Therefore, if you need to get a unique model of the required design, taking into account the size and wishes of the owner, it is better to either seek help from a professional carpenter or make the table yourself.

How to properly attach a tabletop?

In order to attach a folding tabletop with your own hands, you need to stock up on the following set of tools.

  • Tape measure, ruler, pencil.
  • Screwdriver to speed up work. If the table is made of chipboard or plywood, then it will be difficult to do without this tool.
  • An electric drill is necessary for drilling holes when assembling structural elements and attaching them to the wall.
  • Set of drills for wood and concrete.

If there are no specified electric tools, then simple screwdrivers will do, the installation process will just take a little longer. Methods for fastening a tabletop with your own hands depend on the design and fastening mechanism.

  • The simplest one is a folding table with one support fixed on hinges. The model has many variations. General criteria - simple tabletop shape: square or semicircular, single solid stand, small size. The installation algorithm is as follows.
    • The tabletop is attached to the fastening strip using two butterfly loops, which ensure folding.
    • If the table is to be installed on a wall, then first drill holes and drive in dowels. Screwing the mounting bolts into them, install the support.
    • After this, the fastening strip with the tabletop is screwed with self-tapping screws.

  • A more complex option is a table that folds up, with a folding stand. The dimensions of the structure are average, the tabletop extends lengthwise. The supports can be made in the form of a frame or individual legs; their folding is ensured by piano furniture hinges or in the form of butterflies. The width of the mounting strip of this model is already a full-fledged console, which is attached using corners to one wall. A hinged tabletop is installed on it.

  • Designer tables may contain glass or mirror elements. In this case, before installing the work surface, it is necessary to secure the glass or mirror that is part of the structure.
  • For mounted options They use either stationary fasteners or fasteners in the form of bolts, angles and hinges.
  • Folding tabletops Most often they are attached using hinges, however, factory designs may contain backlashes and closers, which allow the structure to be unfolded and folded more accurately. Typically, fastenings of this type are already complete, so the owner only has to install the fastening strip using conventional methods.

The folding surface is suitable for any purpose. It will help you ergonomically arrange objects in a small area, which will save space and make you feel comfortable.

For kitchen

In a small kitchen with an area of up to 5-8 square meters. m folding tables are simply necessary. Behind them you can seat up to 10 people with the right choice of model and type of arrangement.

Kitchen tables can be placed as follows:

  • On top of radiators, further masking the battery design.
  • Along the window, using the area of the window sill.
  • Along the wall in the form of a folding bar counter.
  • Across the kitchen, but such models are usually designed for 2-4 people.

Wall-mounted options can be folded, leaving a shelf or console, or can completely merge with the wall. The dimensions of kitchen models depend only on their functional load and room area. Cutting tables are small, dining tables should be designed for all family members. The decision to place a double folding table in the kitchen looks very interesting. First, a small surface is folded down, designed for 2-3 people, and if there is a need to increase the table area, then the second tabletop is lowered.

If the kitchen is used by 1-2 residents, then sometimes a small tea table on one leg is enough. Usually it is round, less often square. However, for a large number of guests, you can provide a surface that can be folded from the wall, which will rest on this table.

A wall detail up to the ceiling will provide the opportunity to organize a huge dining area.

For rooms

Hanging tables are widely used to arrange the workplace of a schoolchild or needlewoman. Designers use lightweight, compact models with a minimum set of functions for the interior of a small room or non-residential premises, such as a balcony, workshop, or storage room. More complex multifunctional massive tables are appropriate where space allows. The idea of a wall cabinet with a folding tabletop in the form of a door is not new. However, it is still relevant because it allows you to organize a workspace anywhere: in a room, an interior hallway, and even in the kitchen.

Massive racks with a folding mechanism are more functional. They can withstand heavy loads, so you can even install computers and TVs on them. The use of folding fronts of secretaries in the form of tabletops is a practical invention of yesteryear. Designers organically fit picture tables into any interior. When unfolded, the table opens up a wall cabinet; when folded, it opens up a picture or mirror. A vertical long narrow table is often built into a wardrobe. It is intended for ironing clothes or sewing, and in the absence of a workplace it can be used as a desk.

For balconies

Designers advise to boldly turn small balconies into a mini-office, mini-bar or mini-living room. Sometimes it may seem like there is no room to create a cozy environment. If you approach the choice of interior wisely, it will turn out that even a person ignorant of design matters can do everything. You will need compact multifunctional furniture and a folding table, and many specialists also make chairs and benches folding or lifting. It is enough to throw a couple of soft textile pillows on them, put a cup of hot tea on a suddenly appeared table and light a lamp.

For cafe

Recently, designers have been paying special attention to the appearance of tables, so small cafes are sometimes decorated with no less taste than reputable restaurants. For this purpose, various hanging glass tabletops in wrought-iron frames are used to create cozy spaces on summer balconies. Bright variations of folding tables for verandas that accommodate groups from small to large.

When there is little space in the workshop, but you need to work somewhere, a small table is needed.
But a folding or folding table is best suited for compactness. It can be made lowered or, as in my case, raised.
For the table we need:

  • - chipboard or thick plywood;
  • - bars for legs;
  • - two loops;
  • - wood screws;
  • - three powerful self-tapping screws with dowels;
  • - three 8 mm washers;
  • - block for support;
  • - four corners;
  • - latch;
  • - 8 mortise furniture nuts.
Mark the level of the table on the wall. Drill holes for dowels.
We screw the block to the wall using self-tapping screws, having previously installed the washers.
My block burst, but not badly. I glued it with PVA glue.

In the leg blanks we drill non-through holes for mortise furniture nuts. I unscrewed the nuts from the old cabinet and not only them. But more on that later. Leg length 720 mm.

We screw furniture nuts into the drilled holes. In principle, there are other types of nuts, but you need to go to the store to get them.
A little about marking holes. The nut has a diameter of 11.5 mm, drill with a 10.5 mm drill. To tighten the nuts, you need a screwdriver with a wide blade.

At this stage you can screw the corners. The corners are also from an old cabinet. This closet is a treasure trove of useful things. This is not the last thing I learned from it.
Now let's get to the tabletop.
Its role will be played by one of the walls of the same closet.
The size of the table (tabletop) was 1200*560 mm.
We drill holes in it for the nuts. Also not end-to-end. You need to be careful in this procedure. The legs of the table are thick and it’s easier to drill into them, but here you can speed up and make a hole in the tabletop.

Screw in the nuts. They fit tighter into chipboard than into wood.

We attach the tabletop to the installation site and install the hinges. I have them used, like everything else in the design.

Place the legs on the tabletop and tighten them. Since our legs are removable, we tighten the screws until they stop. When we remove them, we simply loosen the screws and the legs come off easily.

We take the block and attach it to the wall. We screw the latch onto the block.
In principle, the fastening may be different.
The latch holds our tabletop when it is raised to the folded state.
When folded, the table does not take up space. The legs can be hung on the table itself, as in the photo on the right.
